In this course, we will analyze the GK ELS test itself, and FOCUS on HOW TO:
Identify correct usage of modifiers and how they change the meanings of words and phrases
Identify context clues and use them to help define unfamiliar words
Define what parallelism means in various contexts and what it looks like on the test
Review functions of the different parts of speech and how they work within sentences
Describe how a text is organized by finding patterns in writing
Analyze and review how pronouns are to be referred to in sentences (subject verb agreement, Etc.)
Identify inappropriate shifts in verb tense
Practice and discuss proper standard usage of capitalization, punctuation, and spelling conventions
Identify and correct various types of syntax errors
So let’s kick it up a notch. Beyond the content itself, we will be learning effective and successful methods to:
Analyze correct answers and understand WHY they are correct!!
Analyze wrong answers and understand WHY they are incorrect!
Practice authentic test items and review them together (video solutions are AWESOME for this)!
Analyze and reflect on the various question types, question tasks, and vocabulary usage seen on the GK ELS!

For starters, you are in great hands. I am an award winning secondary English Language Arts Teacher, Author, and Digital Learning Consultant from Columbus, Ohio. In 2008 I earned a Bachelor of Specialized Studies in English Literature & Creative Writing from Ohio University in Athens, OH. In 2010 I earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree with a major in Adolescent-to-Young Adult Language Arts Education from The University of Rio Grande.
