Dr. Francisco Rivera Mieles

Dr. Francisco Rivera Mieles has maintained a life-long passion for education. He was born and raised in Puerto Rico, moving to Florida 18 years ago.

Having experienced an educational transition (K-12 Education in Puerto Rico and Post-Secondary Education in Florida) gave Dr. Rivera insight into one of our fastest growing populations, English Language Learners (ELLs).

As an educator, Francisco saw first-hand the hardships these students go through every day, as they sit in our classrooms sometimes silent, and most of the time confused. That is why it is imperative that teachers understand this segment of our student population, and study best practices grounded in research to help them.

It is such an important topic for Dr. Rivera that he made it the subject of his dissertation at the University of Central Florida.

In the end, as President Lyndon B. Johnson said, “education is the only valid passport from poverty,” and I want to ensure ELLs gain equal access to education to improve their future.Andrew Wade is an enthusiastic educator with a love of bringing history alive for his students.

All About MTTC:
English as a Second Language 126

The MTTC program is intended to evaluate the pedagogical content knowledge required to start teaching in Michigan.

Each test in the MTTC program is criterion-referenced, meaning they assess a candidate's knowledge against a predefined standard of competence (criterion) rather than comparing their performance to that of other candidates. The primary goal of these tests is to identify candidates who have shown the professional readiness and pedagogical content knowledge needed to succeed in their areas of specialization.

All MTTC exams consist of multiple-choice questions, and an examinee's score is determined by the total number of correct answers.
